Book Review

Emotional Assault:
Recognising the Abusive Partners Bag of Tricks
Lisa Kroulik

I was very keen to review this book as I came out of a very controlling relationship
just over a year ago. I wanted to know that other women felt like I had and had managed to turn their lives around as I am in the process of doing now.
The first half of this book lists the different tricks used by an abusive partner to maintain control in the relationship. The author gives real examples from the first marriage and I recognised so many of them it was scary.
The second half deals with leaving the relationship and what to expect once the decision is made. This section gave me hope about my life and my future.

"One of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder"

I only wish I had read this book five years ago when I was so terrified to walk away and I urge anyone who is living in this dreadful situation to read this book.
The author described perfectly how you feel when you finally have the courage to walk away from an abusive relationship.
A tough but excellent read.

My time

Sunday, 21 July 2013

I love Sunday mornings. I'm always first up and I can just sit with a cup of Earl Grey in complete peace and quiet.

I could use this time to gather my thoughts, plan the day ahead. But I don't, there's time for all that.
Instead I curl up with whatever book I happen to be reading and for an hour completely forget about the millions of things I have to do and the busy week ahead. I suppose you could say I'm recharging my batteries.
This is my time and I cherish it.

Calling all fellow bloggers

Friday, 12 July 2013

Hi folks, I need help. I have been trying for weeks to add my twitter and Pinterest links to my blog without success.
There just doesn't seem to be a page to get the twitter button, I did however find one for Pinterest but when I copied it to my blog it didn't work.
Could somebody please give me some advice on how to do this. I feel a bit silly asking as I feel this should be a fairly simple task.
Thanks.

The joys of decorating

Sunday, 7 July 2013

Due to terrible damp which has now been fixed by my landlord I find myself in the middle of decorating 3 rooms at once.
The pre planning was easy, choosing themes and colour schemes is definitely my fave part. The problems started when I decided to strip my kitchen wallpaper.
Now I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person but when God gave out common sense I must have been in the bathroom putting my lip gloss on because not any point did I consider it dangerous to slosh water up and down my wall right next to the light switch.
What followed was an electric shock of epic proportions up my left arm, a tearful phone call to my parents and a trip to hospital for an ECG which thankfully was fine but the doctor did say I had been very lucky.
It's been a little less scary since then but did receive several cuts, burns and a knock to the head in the week that followed and the kitchen isn't finished yet!
I've been moaning for weeks about my house being upside down, never being able to find anything and a sore back and achy legs but I know it will be worth it.
When it's all done I will be able to look at my handiwork and be proud that I did it all myself.

Gatsby style

Tuesday, 2 July 2013

I realise I may be a little behind the times but it's worth a mention anyway.
I recently went to the cinema to see The Great Gatsby and it was a magical experience from start to finish. The cinema lobby was decorated in Art Deco style and all the staff were dressed in 20s costumes, there were even Gatsby themed cocktails in the bar.
The film itself was a masterpiece, stunning to look at and almost as sad as the book. I personally feel that the idea to use modern music with a twist was genius but I know there are conflicting opinions on that.
The release of the film has had a huge impact on fashion this summer so I thort I would share my pick of the Gatsby style.

1. Charleston dress - George at Asda
2. 20s style beaded handbag - Monsoon
3. Gatsby inspired bracelet - Etsy
4. Chemise - Fairefroufrou.com
5. Flapper dress - Etsy

1. Gatsby nails
2. Art deco 20s style rhinestone dangle earrings
3. Vintage 1920s silver heels
4. Art Deco dress - Asos
5. Vintage Art Deco crystal headband - Whitney

Take care

Twinings Chai tea

Monday, 1 July 2013

Having recently decided to cut down on my caffeine intake I found that although I do love a cup of good old tetley I was tempted to grab the coffee jar after a few cups.
So I was on a mission to find (almost) caffeine free products that would keep me interested. Today I stumbled upon Twinings Chai tea described as sweet and spicy it seemed perfect for me as I'm not a huge fan of fruit teas.
Chai is blended with Indian spices and smells fantastic, I can detect ginger and cloves. Now I've found with a lot of flavoured tea that the taste never lives up to the smell but Chai tastes delicious too.
The level of spiciness is just right and I found it very refreshing.
At £2.30 for 50 tea bags it's ver reasonably priced and I'm keen to explore other flavours in the Twinings range.
